Phytochemicals. Prevent diseases.
Ex. Broccoli,
cauliflower, corn, peas, lettuce, mushrooms, carrots, etc.

MILK GROUP:
Benefits:

Calcium that makes bones
and teeth stronger and longer, stop
bleeding if you get cut or bruised, helps muscles
contract and relax.

Important nutrients, including protein, vitamin A,
vitamin D, and vitamin B.
Ex. Milk, cheese, pudding, yogurt, etc.

MEAT GROUP:
Benefits:

Iron that makes muscles
stronger, and carries oxygen to all
parts of your body.

Helps prevent infections and anemia that can make you
feel tired.

Helps your body make energy to get you through busy
days.

Protein.
Ex. Beef,
pork, chicken and turkey, fish, dried beans and peas, peanut butter, eggs,
nuts, etc.

OIL GROUP:
(Lipids)
Oil is not a
food group, but you need some for good health. You can get oil from fish, nuts,
and liquid oils.

EXTRA FOODS:
There are some other
different types of food, which don’t have enough nutrients to fit into any of
the Group Foods.
